HERO'S HOMECOMING
The Minnow Lake Foundation (MLF) has
taken the lead in launching an exciting new program designed to help our
returning Heroes transition from military to civilian life. This innovative
program replaces the old less effective TAPS program and emphasizes “Veterans
Helping Veterans”, thereby creating new jobs for existing Veterans as well as
those just exiting the military.
The Heroes’ Homecoming Program has three major components:
- First,
there is a seven to ten day family camp experience where the Veterans come
with their loved ones to meet, share experiences and lend support to one
another as they recover from the effects of combat service.
It is also during this phase that families can enjoy one another
while participating in standard camping activities, such as sports, musical
theater hiking and horseback riding.
- The
second phase focuses on helping our returning Veterans determine what they
want to do in civilian life. This
part of the program involves individual attention to skills assessment and
job training. Each veteran will
receive help choosing the right career path and acquiring the education
needed to pursue that path.
- Phase
three emphasizes Job Placement for the Homecoming Heroes.
Veteran Counselors will be actively finding appropriate employment
for each veteran and educating their employers about effective ways to
assist newly hired Veterans.
The Minnow Lake Foundation Heroes’ Homecoming team members include
California State University at San Marcos, California
Miramar University, Veteran Training Corporation ( a Service Disabled Veteran
Owned Business), and Seidcon ( a Native American Owned
8 (a) Business with a 25 year track record of performance .
